It's a member of the Agave family. The creamy white flowers that appear in the spring to early summer are nocturnal and are pollinated by bats. Good drainage is essential. Make sure to plant away from walkways, the sword-like leaves are stiff and sharp, but this gives it architectural interest that makes this xeric giant the perfect focal point or backdrop to barrel cactus or shorter sprawling groundcovers.Good drainage is essential for this plant to thrive. It needs low amounts of supplemental water once established. Irrigate by watering deeply and then allowing the top several inches of soil to dry between waterings.
