Description: Henry Ward Beecher a Complete History of his Career, with Analyses of his power as a preacher, lecturer, orator and journalist, and incidents and reminiscences of his life. Lyman Abbott, D.D. assisted by Rev. S.B. Halliday. 1887. Hardcover. First Edition. 647 pages, plus memorial information, blanks to write subscribers names, and a catalog of other American Publishing books. 6 inches wide by 9 inches tall by .75 inches thick. This looks like a publisher's sample, as there are sample bindings in the front (some missing) and list of subscribers in the back. Three are listed: David Paul, Prof. J.A. Gray and J.M. Tanis(sp?) of New Concord (they all chose the England Cloth binding). Please see photos for condition: * Shelf wear to front and back cover and spine. * Foxing throughout book, primarily where tissue paper covers illustration. Some pages have creasing and stains. * Binding is tight. * Endpapers show discoloration and foxing. * No missing, torn or loose pages. Other than subscribers' names in the back, no other writing on pages. * Missing binding samples; one of the two remaining samples came off (glue probably dried) and could be remounted. Thanks for looking and please email with questions.
