Description: I don't know what this is, mostly anyway. Its a strong 12 inches long and short of 2 3/4 inch wide. Looks like it was made for teeth on both sides, tooth side looks a shade narrower than the smooth side. The teeth are filed odd, the etch side of the tooth is flat while the other side has a bevel like a chisel, like it would be good at flush cutting a dowel or something. The Henry Disston & Son etch puts it from a pretty narrow time period right after the civil war. This isn't a traditional etch either, those early etches will show a good amount of metal removed, gets a texture to it, this is more like a bluing process that colored the metal. The pictures don't do justice to the deep colors you get when you move it under light, lots of blue and deep magenta. It might clean up a bit but I left it as found. If you look at an angle it appears to have been given some sort of clear coat, possibly it was a test piece to show the marking style? I see no evidence it ever had a handle or anything else attached. Sort of a whatsit I guess. For information on old tools the resources at Mid West Tool Collectors Association are top notch. They have links collected there for everything antique tool related.https://mwtca.org/useful-reference/ Make sure to check out my other items, I will combine shipping just wait for the invoice.
