Description: If you're interested in rare Judaic coins, look no further. This one was issued under the reign of Sigismund III, King of Poland and Sweden during the Polish-Swedish Union (1592-99). Sigismund who was Catholic was pressured into allowing the largely Protestant population of Sweden full religious and personal freedom, and for a very short time this freedom was reluctantly extended to Jews, who had found increasing freedom in Poland with the ratification of the General Charter of Jewish Liberties in Poland. History here: Timeline of Jewish-Polish history - Wikipedia and here: Polish–Swedish union - Wikipedia and here: History of the Jews in Sweden - Wikipedia However, after Sigismund was deposed and exiled, the Jewish population of Sweden, which totaled only about 3400 by 1890, would have difficulty securing religious and civil rights for the next 1 and 1/2 century. Therefore, this Judaic 1/2 Ore coin was an amazing anomaly for its time, and it remains excessively rare to this day. The only previous sale record we could find was in a 2000 Christies Auction in London. Claim it while you can!
