Description: Here we have what we believe to be a studio pottery bowl by HEBER MATTHEWS (British, 1905-1959) in the Japanese Raku Style. Initialed "HM" and "37" on the base. Per the Victoria and Albert's description: "Heber Mathews studied pottery under William Staite Murray at the Royal College of Art in London during the late 1920s. Following Mathews's death in 1959, Staite Murray wrote that he had been one of the ‘few students who sensed the inner meaning of potting’, someone who saw that pots, ‘when infused with vitality could be an articulating art’." This a beautiful bowl for either the collector or serious tea enthusiast. Diameter 10 cm height approx 6 1/2 cm Thanks for looking!
