Haskell Famous 'Chinoiserie' Courting Scene Pendant Necklace, 1960s

Description: The language of love is universal, and in any culture, when a man is enamored of a woman, he goes a-courting.Such is the scene presented in this Miriam Haskell pendant necklace, a courting scene straight out of Ancient China.This is perhaps the most famous of Haskell's "Chinoiserie" designs from the 1960s. It depicts a courting scene in a veranda setting, with colorful flower blossoms made of faux coral, faux jade, and faux pearls. All against a gilt medallion backdrop, featuring both filigree and open metalwork designs.In the scene, a man and a woman are holding hands. Both are wearing the traditional Chinese garb from the period. He has a pointy hat and long braided hair. She has a beautifully coiffed hair. Both have long gowns with textured pattern and long wide sleeves. The woman is leaning out of a veranda with nice pillars and elaborate designs on the roofline and walls. The man is in the garden . . . perhaps to be welcomed into the house? This courting couple is framed by tall bamboo plants on the left side, and by colorful flowers on the right. The flowers are made of glass beads, mimicking coral, jade and faux pearls. The flowers are hand-wired.The medallion has an ornate fleur de lis frame pattern, as well as a filigree frame.The pendant is about 2 1/8" x 2 1/8". It hangs from an ornate bail that permanently hangs from a thick chain. The chain is about 22 1/2" long, with a spring ring clasp.The pendant is stamped Miriam Haskell within an oval cartouche at the base. In overall very good to excellent condition. The flowers look vibrant, and the goldtone is rich in hue, with no visible verdigris.
