Description: Hanwag Alaska Pro GTX wide.Size EU47, US13, UK12As-new condition. I bought 2 pairs in different sizes and have decided to keep the larger size. This pair has been worn for a few days around the house. If you really hunt around, you can get these sent over from the UK for £350+ £70 = £420 (AUD$820).The equivalent Meindls (Guffert) cost $709 in Australia. The equivalent Lowa (Highcountry) cost $729 in Australia. Regarding sizing: Hanwag say this size is for a foot length of 298mm. The footbed in the boot measures 308mm. I realise fit is personal, but I would say these boots are good for someone with size 12 to 13 in Nike or Asics. It’s better to have a bit of extra space: you can always wear thick socks and it’s good to allow some room for swelling of your feet on long hikes. Over that last 25 years I have had Meindl, Lowa, Zamberlan and Scarpa boots. They are all good boots. But none have the full combination of attributes that these Hanwag boots have: comfort, quality, robustness aesthetics and exclusivity. The Italian boots look great (Zamberlan and Scarpa) but their fit is very narrow, even for my foot which is considered a normal width. These Hanwags have a nice wide toe box for all day comfort, but you can still cinch it down tight if you want to.The Meindls have a great fit but, boy, are they ugly and the lacing system is rough by comparison. The Hanwags have ball bearings in the lower section and a very easy to use lace-lock which is great for different tensions in the top and bottom sections. The Lowas are probably a close second to Hanwag, which is unsurprising when you know that Lorenz Wagner (LoWa) and Hans Wagner (HanWag) were brothers. But Lowas are starting to take on larger scale production and this can lead to quality and robustness issues. Hanwag are much smaller scale, being handmade in European and so attention to detail is high, and they are much more exclusive. You can’t get these in Australia. So how did I get them and why am I selling them? My cousin lives in the Bavaria, Germany, near Hanwag’s head office. I asked her to buy 2 pairs of the Hanwag Alaska Pro GTX, one in size US13, the other in size US14. After wearing each pair around the house for a few days, I have decided to keep the size 14 and so I am putting the other pair of for sale.About the Hanwag Alaska Pro GTX WideRobust and enormously versatile – an absolute trekking classic. The Alaska Pro Wide GTX is made for anything from demanding day hikes to outdoor adventures that span several weeks, carrying a heavy pack. Thanks to its GORE-TEX lining, it keeps your feet dry even in mud and rain, while the slightly higher scree-protection rubber rand on the Alaska Pro Wide GTX version protects the leather against cuts and scratches. Sturdy, durable, die-cast metal lacing components generate a reliable fit. Inside the boot, a polyurethane midsole is topped by a 0.2 mm thick layer of TPU foil. This makes the sole unit not only light and exceptionally comfortable, but easy to look after and more resistant to hydrolysis. The footbed is made of chrome-free tanned leather. The high-cut upper is made using a one-piece construction method that stabilises and protects the ankle area. For those with wide feet, the Wide Last, which provides extra room at the forefoot and ball of the foot, prevents pressure points from forming at the side of the forefoot.Weight: 1800 g (for size 8)Upper Leather Thickness: 2,4 mmLace length: 230cm I have these listed on other platforms and so reserve the right to end the auction early if sold elsewhere.
