Description: Handmade Metal WWII B-25 Mitchell Bomber “Lovely Shelly” 345th Air Apaches Group Used This is a very difficult to find model airplane! It might even be considered a rare find. This is a handmade metal WWII replica of a U.S. Army B-25 Mitchell Bomber Airplane. It has been painted an “Army Green” color. It has been christened “Lovely Shelly” as shown in the photos. The propellers rotate freely as well as all of the wheels. Wing and fuselage decals are intact. All but one of the gun turrets are intact as shown in the photos. NOTE: It is possible that this model airplane might be identified with the 345th Bombardment Group which was known as the Air Apaches. The Air Apaches operated in the Pacific Theatre of War during WWII and flew B-25 Mitchells. The markings on the vertical tail and rudder assembly would have had the unit identification words "Air Apaches" while this model does not include this identification. Rather, it is shown as possibly a white collar as shown in the photos. For comparison, an image of the original Air Apaches unit identification is shown next to the model photo. If correct, the Air Apaches unit identification on the plane makes this a great gift for airplane history buffs. This piece does not have any Maker’s Mark and the origin and date of making of this model airplane is unknown which provides an aura of mystery surrounding the origination of the model plane and that makes it that “special find” not to mention a wise investment for any collector. The plane measures about 16¾” from nose to tail and is 20⅜” Wide from wingtip to wingtip. The plane stands approximately 5” High. This piece will look great on display and will get a lot of attention. This is a great conversation piece and should be considered a “must have” for any model airplane fan or collector of WWII memorabilia. There are a few areas of light soiling on the plane. Please view all photos in detail in order to assess this item's condition for yourself.
