The 1-1/2" silver-toned St Benedict crucifix and the medal were made in Italy; the chaplet was designed and handmade by me in the USA. The single Our Father bead is a white faux pearl. The ten Hail Mary beads are genuine Czech glass, faceted and fire-polished, in alternating light turquoise blue and a metallic pink called "Bubblegum". Really pretty! And don't forget, we include a free gift with your purchase(s) and extra prayer cards!St Ursula was said to have been a princess who was on her way to meet her betrothed and make a pilgrimage to Rome, when her ship was wrecked and her party was attacked by the Huns, who beheaded her handmaidens and killed St Ursula with arrows. The story is probably not entirely historical although there are records of traveling groups of Christian women who were martyred in a similar way by pagan armies and invaders during the 3rd to 7th centuries in Europe. St Ursula was said to be from Britain; and according to legend she travelled to Rome with 11,000 virgins; however the number was likely incorrectly translated from old records and was probably only 11 or 100. St Ursula may also be a name this saint acquired as her story spread - it means "Little Bear" which could be in reference to her courage in protecting her maidens from sexual assault by the Huns. We do know there was an early church in Cologne where the martyrdom took place that is dedicated to St Ursula and her companions. St Ursula is a favorite patron saint of England, Cologne, and of orphans, archers, and female students. The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper.
