Educated in Krakow, Prague, Paris and Bologna, he was a Doctor of Sacred Studies, Law and Divinity. While visiting Rome with an uncle, he witnessed a miracle by St Dominic and was inspired to join the Order of Preachers and received the religious habit of the Dominican Order from Dominic himself. His superiors sent him back to Poland to preach and spread to Order in his native Poland. A gifted preacher, Hyacinth's sermons were received with great enthusiasm and before long he had established communities in Sandomir, Krakow, and in Moravia. He then traveled to Prussia, Pomerania, Lithuania, Denmark, Norway and Sweden and became known as the "Apostle to the North." Known for miracles, the most famous was when the Tartars invaded Kiev, he grabbed the Ciborium to save the Holy Eucharist and when running past the statue of the Blessed Mother, heard her say, "Hyacinth, my son, why dost thou leave me behind? Take me with thee and leave me not to my enemies." Although the life size statue very heavy he somehow was able to carry it out of the church, running past the invaders unseen. Hyacinth fell ill on the Feast of St. Dominic, August 8, 1257. He warned of his impending death. On the Feast of the Assumption, he attended morning Mass. He was anointed at the altar and died that very day, August 15, 1257. St Hyacinth is the patron saint of Poland and pierogies! The prayer cards which come with our rosaries, medals and pictures are home-made, created using a "greeting card" program on a computer and printed in full color on nice quality paper. Although they are not like the usual smaller professionally printed prayer cards, most of our customers prefer them since they are like a pamphlet with 4 "pages" and several images, prayers, patronages and often other information about the saint or Catholic devotion. We also have religious pictures decorated with real pressed flowers, homegrown herbs and handmade Potpourri.Pray the Rosary every day for World Peace!!
