Description: Terracotta Pre-Columbian Aztec/Toltec Style, Handmade Chess Set (Complete, each piece unique.)This presents as a vintage one-of-a-kind, interior design studio commission due to its size, craftsmanship,and presentation. A completely hand-crafted and unique display set. Dropped the price quite a bit; dont think I can do much better...near cost... This is a custom vintage, handmade chess set, with terracotta figurines and tile base.The figurines and tiles are stylized Pre-Columbian/Aztec/Toltec design, and unbranded.Each of the pieces are unique to themselves (see pics) and quite large.Surfaces vary from an ever-so-slight darker (brickish) varnish glaze, to a lightdull bisque; following most artistic reproductions of the Mesoamerican period. Craftsmanship is superb, and condition is excellent, with only a few chips to the surfaces here and there. One of the kings is "handless" on one side;but other figures appear intact and whole. No major cracking orchipping is present. Bases are firm and surfaces clean. Generally, a unique, one-of-a-kind, very well kept set. Dimensions.The kings are approximately 5" tall, as are the rooks which are slightly shorter.The pawns are approximately 2.5" high. The game board consists of 64 individual tiles,in two suites; with 32 tiles of one pattern, and 32 tiles of a different pattern,both of which appear to be stylized deities. Tile thickness is approx. 1/4".The tiles that form the chess board comprise a 24" x 24" square upon assembly.
