Description: [Contemporary Anonymous Art] A Hand Made Book of 168 Numbered Original Pencil and Crayon Drawings, Signed “DW”. Late 20th/Early 21st Century? A series of 168 numbered drawings, the vast majority in pencil and crayons on cut-down sketch pad pages, all signed “DW” and housed in a small hand-made black and vermilion cloth covered album with two-post binding. The drawings appear to be an evolving series of patterns, shapes and colours, each being numbered at the foot and from drawing six onwards, always intended to be a series of 168 drawings - the significance of this number being unknown. Each are simply signed “DW”, which is both mystifying and infuriating in equal measure. There are occasional drawings which go past the pencil & crayons including four vibrantly painted silk screen geometric designs on cloth (numbers 148-151), black paper, cut-outs and appliqué etc. Some have rather cryptic annotations (or titles?) alongside the drawings - “Descartes” (number 70), “Diary” (77), “History” (79), “Work of art - the myth” (80), “David” (81, the artist??), “Definitely” (85), “For reference - see ‘ardup ‘all” (88), “real” (91), “mediator season” (95), “Herein lives nothing/Without is a different matter” (96), “the ton up kid” (97), “the ton-up man” (98), “robyn dear robyn im listening to you while drawing in celebration” (100), “Wise Men Came to Jesus/Get Wise to Him” (103), “Soap box” (108), “I Want to Go Home/But I am Home!” (110), “definition of a perfectionist:- grotesqueness personified” (111). A real curiosity. We know nothing about the artist, when he or she made it, why it was done for a specific length of time and whether there is a meaning behind the evolving drawings. It does however show remarkable skill and imagination and seems to be more than just an art school project. The page size for the vast majority of the drawings is approximately 145x105mm., and the album size is approx. 154x117mm. Minor scuffing to album corners and light grime, though overall in fine condition.
