Description: For auction is a wonderful Arts and Crafts vessel made by Hampshire Pottery of Keene, NH. The piece is known as a "Pitcher or Ewer” vase and it is done in an arts & crafts glaze of cucumber matte green. This piece measures 8" tall and is 4 1/2" in diameter at the bottom bulge. This Pitcher Ewer display a wonderful deep matte cucumber green glaze that Hampshire Pottery was famous for. The Ewer vase has a bulbous bottom with a raised wide neck that forms a spout at the top. There is an applied decorative looped handle applied to the opposite side of the spout. This handle rises up from the top bulge at the bottom and extends all the way to the top where it attaches at the opening to an oval ring shaped handle for easy pouring. You can see this cucumber matte green glaze deep inside the pitcher. The underside bottom displays that beautiful ground down smooth round bottom edge. There is also the synonymous semi-gloss white waterproofing glaze covering most of the bottom with the green glaze along its edges. This Ewer, Pitcher vase is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. This is known as shape number 2 in the George Morton catalog of Hampshire Pottery wares. This vessel is signed on the bottom with Hampshire Pottery's oval paper label. This piece can be dated based on the lack of the "M" in a Circle mark and the Hampshire Pottery mark. That was the mark that Cadmon Robertson the glaze Chemist used during his tenure with Hampshire Pottery. This vase was made after his tenure when George Morton bought the Pottery. I would say this vase was made circa 1916-1918. Hampshire Pottery was making matte blue and green glazes starting in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main Competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte blue pottery collection of art pottery and would look great on that Stickley Mission Arts and Crafts Bookcase. PLEASE READ BELOW I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July 2020. I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the merchandise unless it is paid for. They are also now charging all sellers a commission of 12.35% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 12.35%. This is an increase of 9.45% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 12.35% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges. If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
