Description: This is a genuine, vintage 1940s World Atlas published by Hammond, which offered "self-revising" updates due to the changes in the map caused by World War II. There is a clippable coupon at the top of Page 1 placed there for that purpose. The copyright date is 1940, but the map on the back cover shows Europe in 1941, including numerous areas annexed and occupied by foreign powers at the time of publication. This is a fascinating snapshot of world history that has to go as I clear out my long-held treasures in the interest of downsizing. I have owned this atlas since the early 1980s and kept it safely stored in my smoke-free homes for all of that time.
