Hallicrafters SX-28 Super Sky Rider from 1942-43 custom serial number H-1544 most likely built for the military (US Navy?) Electronically fully restored including complete dismantling of RF ,Mixer, Oscillator stages a very time-consuming, laborious process ! Also all of the rotted rubber wiring coming out of the IF transformers was replaced which required complete dismantling of the IF transformers! 2. All of the old paper wax caps replaced by brand new caps ,new electrolytic filter caps, new three prong power cord . Also many of the out of tolerance old resistors critical to circuit operations replaced by modern ones.Tubes checked .IF and RF alignment performed. 3. S-meter sometimes requires tapping to free movement. Also Selectivity control requires a little wiggling to set the desired selectivity. Currently five degrees of IF selectivity operational from BROAD to MED XTAL. 4. Cabinet and front panel have original factory finish with some paint scrapes and other blemishes etc etc look at all the pics which give it character of a vintage communication receiver . Some paint loss on top of cabinet. NEW heavy duty rubber feet installed .There is also some paint loss around the screws on the front panel as the previous owner had installed non original screws with steel washers .Bottom cover is MISSING. There are some minor scratches on main tuning dial ( will add pics to show them). 3.HEAVY rcvr close to 90 lbs packed .Will be double boxed with plenty of insulation .Shipping could easily run between $150 to $200 depending on your zip. 4.Requires 5000,500 ohms speaker (not included ) or a vintage high impedance headset can be used.Radio went thru many hours of testing and listening . Picking up signals with good to excellent sensitivity audio performance is powerful and clean from the push-pull 6V6 audio output stage! (Note: I have a R-42 bass reflex 500 ohms speaker that I can sell to the buyer if interested). 5. Dial calibration is good or close enough.WWV signals come close to right where they're supposed to .Keep in mind this is 1940s LC analog technology don't compare this with your modern day communication receiver equipped with DSP, PLL circuitry etc. NOTE: Sensitivity drops on the highest 6th band ( 21Mc to 42Mc) plus calibration is also off on the highest band which is typical with many of the old communication receivers . 6. Also note due to the mechanical forces acting during shipping even with careful packing it is possible for the alignment to slightly go off. 7. .Returns only accepted if something wrong with my description in that event buyer will be RESPONSIBLE FOR RETURN SHIPPING back to me.Also make sure you know how to operate a communication receiver like an SX-28 . Radio requires a long outdoor antenna for good shortwave reception. Manuals for the SX-28 can be downloaded for free from sites like BAMA ( Boatanchors Manuals Archives).
