Mollet (1905-1975) was a teacher active in the resistance to German occupation, arrested and interrogated three times by the Gestapo. Longtime Secretary General of the French Socialist Party (1946-1969), he served as Prime Minister (1956-1957). During the Egypt-Israel war of 1956, and in secret agreement with Israel, Mollet's government and that of Anthony Eden in Britain sent troops to seize the Suez Canal. The Anglo-French forces withdrew under U.S. pressure, and both Mollet and Eden resigned soon thereafter. President DeGaulle, however, restored to power in 1958, appointed Mollet Minister of State (1958-1959). Mounting tape on verso shows through at top center, not touching signature. Otherwise, fine condition. See more material from these signers: PRIME MINISTER GUY MOLLET (FRANCE) See more listings in our FORIEGN LEADERS (808) category.
