Grey cloth chin strap & buckle for SSh-39/40 helmet WW2 Red Army reproduction

Description: Self made reproduction of a cloth chin strap and buckle. This listing is for the chin strap ONLY. Reproduction Red Army model 1939 cloth chin strap for the SSh-39 helmet, but also used on the SSh-40 steel helmet. Copied from a genuine strap in a private collection on a 1942 dated helmet shell, and with a 1940 blueprint of this strap. This chinstrap was officially replaced with the miltz ribbon model of November 1940 with the "U" shaped metal end tab. Approximately 2 cm wide and 29 and 25 cm's long respectively. Made entirely from Soviet materials, the fabric is the same as the original and is made from military grade grey double diagonal cotton twill imported from Russia, the buckle is from a genuine 1950's Soviet Army equipment strap. Some buckles coming through now show have some surface rust and oxidation marks. Chin strap itself is in three parts, the left and right strap, and securing loop, 3.5 mm holes are punched ready for attaching to a helmet. When attached you should have two straps approximately 27 cm and 23 cm's long. I have provided a reference picture showing the original chinstrap for comparison along with one fitted to my own helmet. Manufactured using authentic Soviet materials. Please check the width of the bales on your helmet before purchasing if you wish to use these on a model 1936 helmet to ensure the chin strap will fit. Early model 1936 helmets took a chin strap 1.5 cm wide and will have a narrower bale. From 1938 a new wider 2 cm chin strap was used, and a wider bale was fitted. This strap is a model 1939, and in theory can be fitted to a later model 1936, but will be a tight squeeze getting it through an earlier bale. HELMET NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE.
