Author Biography Jan Krijff was born in the Netherlands in 1947 and immigrated to Calgary in 1968. After obtaining his B.A. in Economics at the University of Calgary, he worked for CIBC, during which he spent one year posted in Resolute Bay, Nunavut (then the Northwest Territories). He briefly returned to the Netherlands, where he graduated from the University of Leiden with a Masters degree in History, before taking up residence in Vancouver. Jan has combined his own experience with immigration, his connection with his homeland and his fascination with history by exploring the relations between the two countries, especially in the relatively unexplored period before World War I. In 1993, he published 100 Years Ago, Dutch Immigration to Manitoba in 1893 and in 2003, Een Aengenaeme Vrientschap (An Amicable Friendship), a collection of historical events between the Netherlands and Canada from 1862 to 1914. Karen Green was born in High River, Alberta, and received her degrees in Arts and Law at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Her law practice focused on employment, labour and human rights, and it was this expertise that she brought to her work with local governments and community colleges. She taught Human Resources Management at the University of Victoria and Vancouver Community College. She has also served as a member of the British Columbia Mental Health Review Board, working to ensure fair hearings for mental health patients. She will now be introduced to the Dutch experience as she travels to Holland with her husband (and co-author).
