The king put his sword and sandals under a large rock and told Aethra that when their son could lift the rock, he should take the sword and sandals and come to him in Athens. Ancient history archaeology, ancient literature, mythology and ancient mysteries. Most people have heard of Theseus, the greatest hero of ancient Athens, and have relegated him to the realm of legend and fairy tale. The story of Theseus's adventures, with its monsters, Amazons, centaurs, and an expedition to Hades, looks very unpromising as historical material. However, since Schliemann located Troy by relying upon topographical data in the Homeric poems, archaeologists have been alert to the dangers of rejecting too readily the ancient texts. 281 pages. Measures about 9" x 10". The third book is "A Concise Guide to Mycenae & Tityrus" by Pericles Collas published in Athens by C. Cacoulides ca. 1955. Fifty two pages of text, which includes some maps and drawings, and about thirty b/w photographic plates, printed on coated paper, of the ruins and their settings. A nice copy of an excellent guide to these important sites of ancient Greece. This is the original hardcopy book, It is NOT a reprint or photocopy. Measures about 7" - 7½" tall. 82 pages. Printed on high quality paper. A fascinating book set!! Highly recommended!
