Description: Gray's Elegy: An Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard- 1914 British Poem. A beautiful and unique volume, with some flaws. The pages are thick and heavy and mindful of linen, but they are paper. G.F. Nicholl's rich and vivid illustrations were pasted in post-printing, rather than printed. The binding is stitched thread. It's a rare and delightful piece of book-making. I listed six or seven random pictures of pages, to give you a feel of how it looks. Now the flaws. It's dirty. The front and back covers are dirty, especially around the borders, and the edges are filthy (see the thirteen and fourteen pictures). Inside the front and backs covers are badly discolored from age (the fifteenth and sixteenth pictures). The discoloring stops there, though- it doesn't carry on to the interior pages. The spine is scuffed up top and bottom (see the last and next-to-last pictures) and the hinge is coming loose in places (see the last picture). Normally I would have tried to clean it up a little, at least the covers. But it's a 100-plus year old book, and a unique one. I don't want to do anything to make it worse.
