Description: About as grand as they get, this is a rare early Victorian silver plated Entree / Chafing dish in silver plate by the top-notch silversmith, Elkington Mason & Co. The dish comes in four pieces, the footed base to store hot water to keep the contents warm, a shallow tray, the entree dish which sits on top of the tray and finally the lid. A magnificent, large decorative dish with a stunning Artichoke finial. Being Elkington with full marks, it allows us to date it accurately to the year 1853, coming up to 170 years old. It was clearly owned by a notable family with each side of the engraved with a family crest of a Moor head. Superb condition with minor wear commensurate with age and use. Spanning 15 1/2" handle to handle x 11 1/2" x 8 1/2" tall to top of finial. Item: 44160
