Description: RARE Belgian Original First Release Style B Movie Poster On Linen - Gone With The Wind (1939), Vivian Leigh, Clark Gable, Leslie Howard, Olivia de Havilland, Hattie McDaniel, Thomas Mitchell, Margaret Mitchell, Sidney Howard, Victor Fleming, Classic Best-Selling Novel Adaptation, Civil War Era, Love Quadrangle, Technicolor, Winner of Multiple Academy Awards, Here is an original Style B movie poster from the Belgian 1st release of arguably "the greatest film ever made", Gone With The Wind. A sweeping drama of love and loss set in the American South during the Civil War and Reconstruction, this movie picked up ten Oscars at the 1940 Academy Awards ceremony. This poster if from the movie's first theatrical release in Belgium in the early Fifties. It is the Style B (Kiss Style) variation of the poster which is rarer than the Style A version. Please Read Carefully: What makes this particular example of the Style B poster rare and unique is that the MGM distribution information at the lower right corner of the artwork remains intact (It has not been blacked-out by the printer as is the case with nearly all of the other existing copies of this poster I have seen in the past 30 years). Other examples of this poster (see last photo for reference purposes only) contain additional stamped information citing Loew's Inc. as the distributor as well as a David O. Selznick presents designation in the top left border area. There are a few theories as to why this happened, the main one being that the posters were actually printed before World War II brought an abrupt end to theatrical movie exhibitions in Belgium for a number of years (hence, the poster's larger pre-War format). By the time the war ended, and the film was finally released in Belgium, the distribution rights had moved from MGM to Lowe's Inc. and rather than printing up a slew of new posters, the older original posters were altered with the new information. Now, the other issue with this poster is that someone wrote exhibition information in the artwork area with a black marker or crayon. The good news is that the writing is in a more inconspicuous portion of the poster and can easily be eliminated with a quick airbrush job, if you desire to do so.
