Maharaja Hari Singh (born 23 September 1895, Jammu ; died 26 April 1961, Mumbai ) was the last ruling Maharaja of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. He was the son of Maharaja Ranbir Singh and the youngest son of Raja Amar Singh, brother of former Maharaja Pratap Singh . He inherited the throne of Jammu and Kashmir from his uncle, Maharaja Pratap Singh. He married four times in his lifetime . He had a son named Karan Singh from his fourth wife, Maharani Tara Devi . Hari Singh was the last king of the Dogra Empire who kept the state of Jammu united for a century. The state of Jammu enjoyed autonomy and internal sovereignty until 1947. The state was not only multicultural and multi-religious, its far-flung borders are testimony to its formidable military strength and unique history.
