Mr. Kazumi Takeishi of Yoju Shorin came to Tokyo in January 2008 and asked us to reprint the 1977 edition of "Goju Ryu Karate Do Kyohon" (13 volumes). The "Goju Kensha Karate-do Kyohon" is a photographic record, frame by frame, of the Goju-ryu I learned from my father Sosui Ichikawa and the basic Shuri-te (Shuri-te) taught by Uciku Higa: Naihoshin, Heian, and Naha-te Aragaki-ha. I am grateful to Yutaka Kinjo Sensei for his advice in helping me to create this book. Goju-ryu should not be a sub-stream of Chinese kenpo. I realized that it is important to develop the "hand" that has existed there since ancient times, with Chinese kenpo as the father and the Ryukyu Islands as the mother, as the teacher. The completed "Goju-kensha Karate-do Kyohon" is 30 years old and was the first step in the development of the system used as the Goju-kensha's teaching book.
