Description: Goebel M.I. Hummel # 53 - "Joyful" - 4.25" Tall (Largest Size Produced) - Double Crown Trademarks (TMK-1+1) - Master Painter Marked - Temporarily Withdrawn in 1999 - Closed Edition HUM 53 Joyful - TMK-1+1 Height 4.25" Tall Factory records indicate this hummel was first modeled by Reinhold Unger in 1936. There are some size and color variations between early samples and newer models. Early models are typically much larger, such as this one standing at the tallest height listed in the catalogs' range of 3.5"-4.25". Two ultra rare versions exist, early samples of Joyful had an orange dress with blue, purple or brown shoes and there is another version, a sample piece with an attached pot but was not approved by the Siessen Convent for production. I have not seen either one in recent years. If found, they would have a very large price tag due to their extraordinary rarity. This is a closed edition. Joyful was temporarily withdrawn from production by Goebel in January 1999. See below for the specifications: Has "" Crown Marking (TMK-1) incised on underside of base. It is faded, but visible. Has "" Crown Marking (TMK-1) stamped in Dark Blue or Green on underside of base. Difficult to distinguish which color. Incised Hummel Number "53" is faded, but visible on underside of base and incised "M.I. Hummel" on rear lower side of dress by base. Hummel stands at the tallest size of the catalogs' height range of 3.5"-4.25", standing at 4.25" high. This is typical of early versions. Hand-signed Initial "L" or Number "7" by Master Painter, not precisely sure which. Please refer to pictures. ("7" is Master Painter Fritz Korn, however his mark usually has a horizontal line through the "7" and this one doesn't have the line. Otto Lieb usually signs his "L" in cursive but this one isn't cursive.) Colors are Strong and do retain Gloss. Closed Edition. Temporarily Withdrawn from production by Goebel in January 1999. Hummel is in Excellent condition considering it's age and rarity! No Repairs! No Chips! No Touch Ups! No Crazing! There are two tiny paint flakes, not chips, along with a paint rub: One flake is on the orange dot of left sleeve of dress. One flake is on bottom of right shoe. Paint rub is on the back side of left shoe where it meets the surface it sits upon. This is typical of figurines without a base. Again, these are not chips, they are smooth with gloss. Please view final 3 pictures for a close up view. May have some dust from sitting in the China Cabinet for decades. I did not want to damage it inadvertently by cleaning it.
