Description: Glas-Col 102B 120V/208V 650W Heating Mantle for 250mm (6.0L) flask [E4N][E4O] This heating mantle has an electrical connection box that makes it easy to connect to any power source -- 240VAC 208VAC 120VAC.It also makes it easy to check connections (that can oxidize with long high temperature use). This heating mantle has a silicone ringed hole in the bottom for a magnetic stirrer to fit into. To make it easy for incoming inspection, I have wired a 120VAC USA cord set. This power cord could be plugged into a temperature controller with 120VAC USA receptacle and used with lowered power compared to specified 650 Watts at 208VAC. The power specified is 650W, which demands R = 208 * 208/650 =66.6 Ohms, and I measured about 66 at the heater element terminals. So, when we use 120VAC, the power delivered as heat is V**2/R = 120 * 120 /66.6 = 216 Watts. If your wall outlet voltage is more like mine at 124VAC, the power delivered as heat is V**2/R = 124 * 124 /66.6 = 231 Watts. If you want more heat you can wire up 240VAC that is usually around in the US and get power delivered as heat = V**2/R = 240 * 240 /66.6 = 865 Watts. That is more than the mantle is designed for, so be sure to use a PWM controller and set it at 75% or less to keep the outer shell of the mantle from getting too hot if running on 240V.
