Description: Vintage ART DECO Style Natural South Sea Pearl, Ural Mountains Emerald, and Diamonds Necklace This beautiful statement piece is most likely mid to late century between 1960 to 1980 due to its use of purity markings, white gold and diamond cuts. The use of Old European cut diamonds and wild caught natural saltwater pearls make this A ONE OF A KIND collector's piece! Necklace consists of two strands of matched 3mm to 4mm button shaped natural wild caught south sea Pinctada pearls and emerald beads leading to a matched pair of notably large, deep vivid forest green, semi-transparent to translucent floral carved natural Ural Mountains emeralds. This is a very rare emerald origin and Ural Mountain emeralds are highly collectable. The emeralds are shield and fan shaped with the largest weighing between 15 and 20 carats and the smaller weighing between 8 and 10 carats. The center piece emeralds are accented by one emerald cut near colorless natural diamond weighing approximately 0.40 carats, along with two round old European cut diamonds weighing approximately 0.20 carats each. The largest emerald is further adorned by 30 round brilliant and old European cut diamonds weighing a total of approximately 1.50 carats. The necklace culminates with a 2 ½ inch, 13 strand natural wild caught pearl and emerald bead tassel with each strand ending with a large emerald bead weighing approximately 1.00 carats each. The largest pearl separating the carved emeralds and the tassel measures 5.5mm. The necklace setting and clasp is made of 18k white gold. The clasp is also decorated with numerous round cut diamonds. Important numbers: The necklace contains 647 natural wild caught saltwater south sea pearls. The pearls are button shape ranging from 3mm to 5.5mm. The body color is white with an orient overtone. There is no indication of treatment to the pearls. Necklace is accompanied by a GIA Pearl Identification Report numbered 5234153825 stating from pinctada species. The total weight of all emeralds in the necklace is approximately 74 carats including both carved emeralds and all emerald beads. The carved emeralds geographic origin is the Ural Mountains and are semi-transparent to translucent clarity enhanced (F2). Necklace is accompanied by a GIA Emerald Origin Report numbered 2235153822. The total weight of all diamonds in the necklace is approximately 1.60 carats. The diamonds are natural emerald cut, round cut, and natural old European cut. Necklace is accompanied by a GIA Diamond Identification Report numbered 5231153821. Necklace length is 18 inches to the first carved emerald with a 4 inch long carved emerald pendant and tassel. The necklace was appraised for "FAIR MARKET VALUE" July 15th, 2024 by HERITAGE APPRAISALS. The appraised fair market value is $19,500. Necklace ships in a jewelry presentation box and is accompanied by all GIA reports as well as the fair market appraisal. The appraiser believes the necklace is more modern and was intentionally created to mimic the Art Deco style. Characteristics of the necklace, such as the carved emeralds of Russian origin with an F2 clarity enhancement (more modern treatment), the cleanly cut reticulated back of the emerald mountings, and the presence of modern round brilliant cut diamonds mixed in with European cut diamonds, as well as the clasp style, all suggest that it might be a newer construction to imitate the older designs. Additional Comments: Pinctada maxima is a species of pearl oyster, a marine bivalve mollusk in the family Pteriidae, the pearl oysters. There are two different color varieties: the Gold-lipped oyster and the Silver-lipped oyster. These bivalves are the largest pearl oysters in the world. Their habitat is Indo-West Pacific Ocean; Myanmar eastwards to Polynesia and southwards to northern Australia. Value Justification: This necklace is in the 1930’s Art Deco-style. The emeralds are of Russian origin, which is unique and rare to find. The quality of the emeralds is lower due to imperfections and clarity enhancements (F2). The pearls are natural saltwater pearls and well matched in size and color. The diamonds have nice color and clarity but do present with some minor chips and abrasions. Overall, this necklace is of nice quality and condition for its age. The carat weight of the emeralds was determined based on the millimeter dimensions. Due to the unique fan/shield/bead cuts, it is impossible to obtain an exact weight without removing the stones from the mountings for direct weighing. The tumbled bead emeralds are also impossible to gauge without direct weighing and are not as sought after as faceted or cabochon cut. The value of the piece would not change significantly based on the emerald carat weight, as its value lies more in its status of the overall materials and style as a whole. If the emeralds are found to have a higher/lower carat weight, the value would be adjusted upward/downward slightly.
