He earned a scholarship to the National Academy of Design in New York City and later served as a medic in the U.S. Army, spending a year in Vietnam. There, he befriended many Vietnamese who became subjects of his paintings. Lubeck is renowned for his Vermont landscapes and still lifes, having received over 50 awards, primarily first place or best in show. Known for his realism, he continually experiments with different media and approaches. He lives in Vermont with his wife Nancy and daughter Sandra.
