Martin is one of the best, most famous, most important, and most collectible science fiction, fantasy, and horror writers in the world. From the dust jacket: " . . . FEVRE DREAM . . . 'George R.R. Martin, somehow, has managed to write a novel that will delight fans of both Stephen King and Mark Twain. The voyage of the grand steamer Fevre Dream down the Mississippi, and the horror that waits for her and her crew at the end of the river, will haunt a reader's dreams and nightmares for a long time. Darkly romantic, chilling and rousing by turns, moody and memorable, Martin's novel is a thundering success.' -- Roger Zelazny . . . FEVRE DREAM is a rich, evocative tale of a noble vampire's quest to unite his race with humanity, of a garrulous steamboat captain's dream of immortality, of the grand legends of the steamboat era, and of the haunting power of the ancient river . . . Abner Marsh, a grizzled giant of a riverboat man, is left stranded and penniless after the icy winter of 1857 destroys his dilapidated fleet. When the aristocratic Joshua York offers him partnership and enough gold to build the fastest steamboat on the Mississippi, it is a dream come true for Abner. But it is not until the maiden voyage of the stately new sidewheeler Fevre Dream, that Abner discovers, to his horror, that his pale, intellectual partner is a vampire, and that Abner's own plans to make history as the fastest steamboat captain on the river must play second fiddle to York's noble mission . . . York is traveling downriver to gather members of his ancient, maligned race in order to free them from their heritage of bloodthirsty violence. But first he must overcome a corrupt and powerful blood-master who awaits him in a crumbling Bayou plantation. Abner Marsh decides to stay on with his partner, little realizing that with every passing mile his dream ship is plunging them deeper and deeper into nightmare . . . " From the rear flap of the dust jacket: ". . . About the author: George Martin is the author of five books, and is the winner of three Hugo Awards and one Nebula Award. He is a contributor to Omni Magazine and Analog, and is a book reviewer for The Washington Post. He has also been a college instructor, a chess tournament director, a Vista volunteer, and a sportswriter. Mr. Martin lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico . . . " from the rear panel of the dust jacket: " . . . What an idea! A picaresque journey down a river of terror. The subtle atmosphere of menace grows and grows until toward the end it becomes almost unendurable. Add to that a fresh vision of the vampire, a lot of historical fun, and you have one very special horror novel . . . " -- Whitley Strieber, author of THE HUNGER and THE WOLFEN ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I grade books and dust jackets: fine, near fine, very good, good, fair, and poor. I describe all faults. If you sell books on EBAY (or anywhere else), it is de rigueur not to list 1st printings of book club books as 1st editions (unless they ARE the 1st edition, which occurs only occasionally); also, a 1st edition, 7th printing, is not a 1st edition. Ex-library books must be noted as such since generally they are of little value to the collector of 1st editions. Condition is also very important to those collectors. Books and dust jackets must be described in detail. In other words, it is incumbent upon the SELLER to know what is and is not a 1st edition. Mistakes can be made (and corrected), of course, but if you DON'T KNOW, don't try to sell a book as a 1st edition. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ CONDITION: A FINE book in a NEAR FINE dust jacket. The book is tight and square in its red quarter-cloth and red boards binding with very bright silver lettering on the spine of the book. This may be an unread copy of this book. There is no writing in the book (except for George R.R. Martin’s signature on the title page); no bookplates; no remainder marks (important in that many copies of FEVRE DREAM show up with the publisher's remainder mark on the bottom edge of the pages). The book has the correct red endpapers. The corners are sharp. There is no readers’ crease or waviness to the spine of the book. The dust jacket is NOT price-clipped and shows the correct 1st issue price of $14.95. There are no chips or tears or wrinkles to the dust jacket, except that there is minor wrinkle and slight smudge at the lower right corner of the rear panel of the dust jacket; largely unobtrusive, especially when considering the overall very nice condition of the rest of the dust jacket. The dust jacket on copies of FEVRE DREAM almost always show up worn and torn due to the relatively flimsy paper used and the method of printing used on the dust jacket. The great and famous and evocative dust jacket artwork is by the excellent artist Barron Storey. This is clearly a collectible copy of this very early and important George R.R. Martin vampire novel. FEVRE DREAM is widely considered to be one of the best vampire novels of the last half of the 20th century and it shows that Martin was destined to be one of the best and most important genre writers at the very end of the 20th century and on into the 21st century, as is evidenced by the great and ongoing "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, the first novel of which is the massively famous A GAME OF THRONES. I use the EBAY shipping system to send out the majority of the books that I sell. Insurance is included in the shipping charges for this book that the buyer will be paying. One would assume that the buyer would want to insure this book for its correct value. A MUST FOR THE COLLECTOR OF IMPORTANT MODERN FANTASY/HORROR FICTION 1st EDITIONS AND/OR THE COLLECTOR OF GENRE AWARD-NOMINATED 1st EDITIONS AND/OR THE COLLECTOR OF GEORGE R.R. MARTIN 1st EDITIONS! ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Additional photos are available upon request. I am continuing to list some of my best books (especially science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions) on EBAY not so much as auctions (due to the fact that EBAY charges quite a bit to list items for reserve auctions), but more along the lines of listing my “catalogue” of books that I have for sale. I'm not going to “give” these books away, but my opening bids and Buy-It-Now prices are usually a fair amount below market value. Furthermore, however, for certain scarce books in great condition, I do expect to get close to what they're worth. Stay with me; I always have a number of important, collectible, cornerstone science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions listed. Many thanks! All items are being offered for sale elsewhere; I reserve the right to end this listing early if this item sells elsewhere. __________________________________________________________________________________ Note: I own the following two books: Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY JUSTICE. Subterranean Press, 2014. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY MERCY. Subterranean Press, 2016. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). I am looking for: Leckie, Anne. ANCILLARY SWORD. Subterranean Press, 2015. 1st limited edition. (#2/500). I would like to round out this set by acquiring the #2/500 copy of ANCILLARY SWORD. If anyone has this copy and is willing to sell it on EBAY, I would be highly interested in obtaining it so that all my copies would have matching numbers. Many thanks. __________________________________________________________________________________ Contact me if you're looking for a particular title or titles. I have thousands of books for sale that may or may not show up in my EBAY listings. I am happy to set up flexible PAYMENT and/or HOLD PLANS for any book(s) that you bid on and win. Shipping: $4.00 for USPS Media Mail shipping. $10.00 for USPS Priority Mail shipping. Buyers who wish to have packages sent to addresses outside of the U.S. are required to pay for the postage necessary to send such packages. Please note: if you want something other than USPS Media Mail shipping, you must wait for me to send you an EBAY invoice or if you are a buyer outside of the United States, you must wait for me to send you an EBAY invoice or you should use EBAY's Global Shipping Program. You must be willing to pay for non-USPS Media Mail shipping charges or for international shipping charges. I reserve the right to negate a purchase if you are unwilling to pay for the correct shipping charges either to an address in the U.S. or if international shipping is required. I am happy to set up flexible payment and layaway plans if these options make it easier for you to participate in bidding and winning. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. See my other auctions on EBAY for excellent science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions (and a few other items). I specialize in science fiction, fantasy, and horror 1st editions: award winners, cornerstone books, and generally recognized important books in the genre(s). I GUARANTEE THE CONDITION OF THIS BOOK; IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, SEND IT BACK! If you prefer payment methods other than PayPal (as I do), I am happy to arrange for a different payment method for you. Before you buy from others, check out their return policies and their guarantees and compare them to mine. I stand behind all of my items FULLY. Why deal with a seller who won't guarantee their books, doesn't have a return policy, or doesn't correctly describe the edition or condition of their book(s)?
