Description: Costumes Parisiens 112: Manteau de velours blanc brodé de perles; Robe de damas blanc – Souliers roses., Designed by George Barbier (French, Nantes 1882–1932 Paris), plates: hand colored engraving 1913. Design for a white damask gown embroidered with pearls and a white velvet coat, part of the 50th issue of the "Journal des dames et des modes", published in Paris on October 10, 1913. Features a woman wearing a long, white gown with a long, narrow skirt with train and featuring a scrolling pattern created with embroidered pearls, under a white velvet coat with fur on the sleeves and neck. She wears red lipstick, long pearl necklace, blue earrings, and pink, pointed shoes. In the background is an oriental landscape pattern with trees, water, boats, men and women on a black ground. Mounted with a mat surround under glass and presented in a black wooden frame. Frame has a triangular hook at the top for wall hanging. Frame measures 11-1/4" height x 8-3/16" width; Visual area of engraving measure 7-1/4" height x 4-1/2" width. In good estate condition, engraving shows overall toning, particularly noted where the sheet meets the mat surround. Age-related fading of the colors noted on the engraving. Mat surround shows only light wear as does wooden frame. Thanks and please let me know if you have any questions.
