Gentianopsis thermalis is an annual in the Gentianaceae family. A native to Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico. There are over 325 species in the genus Gentiana with most having the color of blue to purple flowers and four to five petals. It grows to around 8 inches tall. These flowers are 1.5 to 3 inches long, deep blue in color, with 4 petals. When the weather is overcast, the petals will twist up until closed and reopen with the sun. It will grow best in moist soils in meadows or along stream banks in the mountains. It prefers to grow in full sun. Birds and bees will visit it. Annual Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-75F. Germination is in 7-30 days.
