Many if not most suppliers of HVAC equipment and parts will only sell to licensed contractors. A significant amount of education, training, and hands-on experience is required to become a licensed, HVAC Professional. While professionals can also make mistakes, that is much more likely. High percentage of my parts are sold to other professionals, and it’s been literally years since I had a professional purchase one of my parts and have an issue with it. While it is possible for someone to fix their own equipment by watching YouTube videos and viewing online comments - it is significantly more likely someone trying to fix their own equipment will have issues than a licensed, HVAC professional. People trying to fix their own equipment often purchase the wrong part, or they misdiagnose the issue and buy something that was not what was needed to fix their equipment, are they install incorrectly. Parts like this with an electronic component (circuit board) can be easily damaged by mishandling or improper installation. I can’t look at this part and see if it works properly - often damage to electronic components is not visible. The most reliable way to confirm this works properly is to check it in a working furnace…… the Furnace that uses this particular part . Once that furnace has been parted out, the chance of me having another one that uses this particular part AND works properly that I can use to check it is very small…… basically, if this part is returned it’s worthless to me ….. I won’t sell apart unless I’m sure it works properly.
