Description: Joseph Warren ''Vinegar Joe'' Stilwell [1883 1946] was a United States Army general who served in the China Burma India theatre during World War II. General Stilwell was considered a very capable and daring tactician in the field but due to the lack of men and resources he was continually forced to improvise and after the war Chief of Staff General George Marshall acknowledged he had given Stilwell ''one of the most difficult'' assignments of any theatre commander during World War II. Listed for auction is a exceedingly rare war dated [TLS] typed letter signed on the letterhead of the Headquarters Tenth Army, Office of the Commanding General. The letter is dated 23 July 1945, addressed to an autograph collector and signed ''Joseph W. Stilwell'' in black fountain pen above his typed name and rank. The letter measures 7.50 x 10.50 inches with trivial toning/wear and expected mail folds otherwise it is in very good condition. The autograph of General Joseph Stilwell is uncommon and difficult to obtain in any format because of his passing right after the war in 1946. The autograph is authentic, war dated and signed on a desirable letterhead and will be a great addition to any military collection.
