Description: GCC (Gilbert Clock Company) #6646 Spherical “Baseball” 1-Day Time Only Pendulette Novelty Clock, Good Running Condition Very good example; runs about 27 hours on a full winding. Gilbert Clock Company (GCC) #6646 novelty clock. Attributed to the 1939 World’s Fair in Queens, New York City. This timepiece features an interesting ball or baseball shaped spherical two-piece brass clockworks housing with formed repose numerals. The sphere is supported by two die-cast white metal posts connected to a die-cast white metal base. The original beige color paint on these low-cost clocks was quite fragile and subject to chipping and peeling. This example was in very poor condition and the remaining paint was removed to base metal. The clock retains a vintage look and could be repainted (as most have been) if so desired. The underside of the base retains the original beige paint for color matching reference if full restoration is desired. The GCC logo, patent number and model number (6646) are cast into the underside of the base. An unmarked brass long-shank winding key with proper fit to the winding arbor is included. (Slow-fast adjustment is made by positioning the sliding pendulum bob on the pendulum rod.) Dimensions: (approximate)· Width (across base): 5-1/4” (13.3 cm)· Height: 9-1/2” (24.1 cm)· Depth (front to back): 3” (7.6 cm) Weight: approx. 1 lb. 6 oz. (0.62 kg) (not packaged for shipping) Condition: Overall very good mechanical condition. With the original beige paint having been removed, the cosmetic condition is subject to debate. The clock hands are original; the minute hand has an old solder repair and (caution) looks fragile. Both hands (minute and hour) are relatively loose on the hands arbor. The minute hand moves but does not move the hour hand in the process which may or may not be the way the clockworks was designed. Each hand needs to be moved separately to set the time and the minute hand then needs to be pushed in slightly to snug it onto the hands arbor. The two-piece spherical clockworks housing is brass and has a few corrosion spots visible that do not significantly affect the appearance. The screws that connect the two case halves have been replaced. Refer also to the information above and the photos for details. As with all antique and vintage time pieces there is no guarantee or warranty for continued performance. Adjustments may be needed after delivery. Shipping considerations: The pendulum will be restrained from swinging during shipment. The winding key will be attached to the base of the clock. The mainspring will be let down and the clock will need to be wound after delivery. Please check the photos carefully as an important part of the description and for the best measure of condition.
