Description: LACORDAIRE, JEAN-BAPTISTE HENRI (1802-1861). Paris: Sagnier et Bray, 1848.Three funeral eulogies given by the great Dominican preacher and restorer of the Dominican order in France, Jean-Baptisite Lacordaire. The most interesting of the three is that given for the Irish patriot Daniel O'Connell (1775-1847) at a Requiem Mass organized by Parisian Catholics on February 10, 1848 and celebrated at the Cathedral of Notre-Dame. The theme for the eulogy was taken from the Gospel of St. Matthew: "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for justice, for they shall be satisfied". O'Connell is famous for having fought for and obtained rights for Catholics in Ireland. Three works bound together. The other eulogies were given at Nancy Cathedral and are dated the 28th of August, 1844 and the 25th of May, 1847, respectively. 8vo, 35pp., 46pp., 48pp. Bound in contemporary full calf. The original wrappers were not bound in to this volume. A bit of light foxing.
