Description: Wingless or Flightless Fruit Flies in a 24oz container. The perfect food for small invertebrates, frogs, and reptiles! Produces feeder Fruit Flies for 2-4 weeks depending on selected freshness. How to Use:When you need to open your culture, tap the entire container downward gently to get your Fruit Flies to fall to the bottom of the container, this will allow you to control your portions and keep them all from walking out. You may also put this culture into a refrigerator TEMPORARILY before feeding and your flies will go into a sleepy state. If you have multiple animals to feed, I personally highly suggest using a second taller container to pour out your initial portions into. Inspecting Culture on Arrival:It is very important that you inspect your culture to ensure your Fruit Flies have survived shipping. Larvae and eggs will survive shipping stresses, such as vibration and temperature, much better than the adult flies - so if you don't see adults, examine the food media carefully for new larvae, if there is movement within the food then you will inevitably have more flies! How to Determine DOA:DOA; or Dead on Arrival, is pretty straight forward with Fruit Flies. If you don't see any flies, then you have a DOA. HOWEVER, as stated above, larvae and eggs can survive pretty stressful conditions, so examine closely or wait 5-7 days before reporting to us - they often just replace the losses on their own. Using Priority Mail instead of Ground Advantage will mitigate DOA, so choose at your own risk. General Shipping Reminders:I must kindly remind you, my amazingly understanding customer; that I cannot control what the USPS does with your package once it's in their possession. It is incredibly frustrating on my end (and yours) when they fail to perform their job. For example, if your requested Post Office Hold gets delivered or the USPS destroys your Fruit Flies in some other unforeseen way - please let me know ASAP so I can report mishandling. You should also report it, we are both victims if mishandling happens. I must once again remind you, please be aware that these are LIVE animals. I am very understanding and will insulate boxes at request, use different shipping, and do whatever else to ensure you get them alive, but I also need your cooperation if you know that shipping to your home has certain patterns. Firstly, always choose the fastest shipping. Secondly, if your local temperatures are under 45F or over 80F and you know your Fruit Flies will end up in a mailbox or on a sunny porch; retrieve them ASAP or request a Post Office Hold. Mailboxes especially, they reach extreme temperatures. There is no amount of insulation, heat, or ice (while still providing oxygen) that will prevent DOA if they're in a mailbox. This applies for any animal being delivered via mail. We only ship our animals on M/T/W - orders made on Wednesday will ship the following Monday unless you are close to us. If you suspect DOA from shipping, I urge you to message me here ASAP so we can discuss replacement/refund - just be aware that sometimes simply waiting several days might yield a new generation. If you have any requests, issues, or questions regarding your order (such as care or Post Office Holds), please feel free to message us and we will respond as soon as we are able to.
