Description: Fürstenberg “Grecque Athena” Fine Porcelain Coffee Service Exquisitely detailed in 24-carat gold applied by hand on pure white porcelain. Perfect condition - free of wear, chips, cracks or breaks. Made In Bavaria/Germany. The “mask” on the face of the coffee pot spout is that of the face of the ancient Greek goddess Athena. The three pieces of this set are stamped with a crown above the initial “F” with “Furstenberg” written out below. Finally, it says “Germany”. All this in blue. Additionally, in red it reads “A77” and “29”. This design was originally made by Furstenberg between 1840-1850.It was then reintroduced In 1913. Beginning in 1949 and continuing until 1990, pieces would have been stamped “West Germany”. Given that “West” does not appear I conclude that these pieces were produced before 1949. 1966-2006 pieces were stamped “F” without the full company name. Given that “Furstenberg” is written out on these piecesI understand that it would not be from this period. I purchased this set in the early 1990s from an antiques shop. My conclusion is that this set would have been produced between 1913 and 1949. If anyone can provide information that might shed further light on the date of these pieces I would be happy to hear from them.
