Description: From Greenland's Icy Mountains by Reginald Heber with 20 illustrations by Frederic B. Schell. 1st edition, Hardback. Pubs. Porter & Coates Philadelphia, 1884. 45 pages. Reginald Heber 1783 -1826 was an English priest, hymn writer and man of letters who later became the Bishop of Calcutta. He wrote a number of hymns, including From Greenland's Icy Mountains, and the now better known Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty. A weak constitution and the Indian climate led to his premature death, in a cold bath, at the age of just 42. A collection of his hymns was published soon after his death and this single hymn, beautifully illustrated by Frederic Schell, was published in Philadelphia in 1884. This copy, with a charming inscription, was a present from Joe Wallas to his sister at Christmas 1887. The book is in very good condition for its age. It is beautifully bound in patterned black cloth, with gold edged pages. Some of the spine strings have broken but the binding is still sound. It has light wear to the edges and corners of the boards. Internally very good. There is some discolouration to the boards and slight bumping to one corner. Please see all photographs to confirm condition. Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class signed for. Many thanks for your interest in this item.
