Description: Okay, so this one's a real "deep cut." If you're a fan at all of female punk bands (and, as a "punk fan," the "female" part should register as either arbitrary or redundant), then you may have heard of Frightwig. But if you haven't, that's completely forgivable. Frightwig falls into that all-too-common category of punk band that was at once enormously influential while experiencing only a modicum of success--the way that certain comedians are "comic's comics," Frightwig is a punk band's punk band. Kurt Cobain can be seen wearing a Frightwig tee under his grandpa cardigan during the famous Mtv Unplugged performance. Courtney love saw the band on the same night that Jennifer Lynch of L7 and Kat Bjelland of Babes in Toyland did, and later said that they "all decided to to start bands the next day." So, in this sense, you could almost say that Frightwig is like the Velvet Underground of the Riot Grrl movement--and unlike many of the bands that that followed in their path more successfully, Frightwig is still going. And as influential as they are, there's virtually no merch out there--until now! (Even the shirt that Cobain wears, featuring the "eyeball logo" is only available for "print-on-demand" on whatever cruddy ass tee these sellers happen to be stocking.) Here we have an authentic, vintage promo tee for a show the band played at a joint called the "Cage Ramp" (probably some long-defunct dive in the Bay area, where the band was from). The artwork, as you can see, is absolutely dope, and there was clearly a very limited run on these, as there doesn't seem to be any others out there at all (try and find one). Broken in to complete vintage perfection, this is a classic FOTL, so it fits like an absolute dream--that perfect "hang" that drapes over the bod so effortlessly that it feels born to be there. Flawless, too: washed and worn a number of times and then tucked away in storage, an estate sale gem, only to unearthed by the deep-diving slim_punk, so that it can be made available once again for your purchasing pleasure. A one of a kind shirt for a one of a kind band. Eternally and influentially dope!
