The book is titled French Prints of the 20th Century and it was written by ROGER PASSERON; it was published by Praeger Publishers in 1970 and printed in Switzerland (the text is in English). All of the great painters of our age have used engraving as a means of expression. In it they have sought to transform their vision, often in a more spontaneous way. As Picasso has said, engraving alone--by the nature of its several states--allows the artist to express the different stages of his creative thought. And at a far more reasonable price than a painting or drawing it enables the general public to acquire an original work of a great artist. For these reasons engraving enjoys a popularity in all the great countries of the world. The purpose of the present volume is to introduce the layman to the various techniques of engraving an to assemble the best and most characteristic examples of the principal French painters. After presenting examples of woodcut lithography, drypoint, aquatint, etc,, the author examines the work of French engravers from the Impressionists to those of the mid-20th Century. An illustrious group of artists is dealt with, including Renoir, Gauguin, Signac, Toulouse-Lautrec, Bonnard, Matisse, Rouault, Dufy, Picasso, Chagall and Buffet. Also included are Edvard Munch, Max Ernst, Salvador Dali, and Joan Miro. This handsome volume is illustrated with 25 black-and-white and 32 color reproductions suitable for framing and easily removable.A fantastic find, and a beautiful copy of this book! Thanks for looking, and good luck if you're bidding!
