Description: Raoul Dufy (1877-1953) is a well-listed French painter associated as a major figure in the Fauvist art movement. He was educated at Le Havre's Ecole des Beaux-Arts. After a year of military service, he won an art scholarship to the Ecole Nationale superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He gained recognition for his vibrant and decorative style of painting. He is remembered particularly for his artwork depicting outdoor social gatherings, landscapes and seascapes. His works can be found in many important collections including The Art Institute of Chicago; the Musee d'Art Moderne de Paris; the Musee des Beaux-Arts de Nice; and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
