Fraureuth Kunstabteilung Vase, Art Department, Survivors Of The Fallen, 1918

Description: Hand decorated 1918 Fraureuth Kunstabteilung (Department of Art) cobalt blue vase with some gold gilt. Cross-oval, heart-shaped body, with a stepped oval base and a cylindrical neck that widens towards the opening.The front and back show a finely painted floral design (white roses). The rest of the vase body is glazed in cobalt blue, the stand and neck opening have a gold rim. The piece is 20 cm high and at its widest point 17 cm. The piece, apart from a very small area of rubbing to the gold gilt on the top rim, and small imperfection on the gold rim on the base (please study the photographs) is excellent - no evidence of cracks of any nature or crazing. On the underside is the iron-red stamp of the porcelain manufactory with the lettering IN BENEFIT OF THE NATIONAL FOUNDATION FOR THE SURVIVORSOF THE FALLEN IN THE WARFRAUREUTH ART DEPARTMENT Custom-made products for the benefit of the National Foundation for the Bereaved: Some products from the art department set up in 1917 were sold to help the bereaved of those who died in the war....20% of the proceeds from the sale went to the National Foundation. Fraureuth porcelain was manufactured in Germany starting in 1865 and was one of the largest and highest standard porcelain factories in Germany up to 1926. The piece would make a fine addition to anyone's porcelain collection.
