Artist FRANCISCO ZUNIGA was a Costa Rican-born MEXICAN PAINTER & SCULPTOR. Zuñiga studied drawing, sculpture, and engraving at the School of Fine Arts in San Jose, and later studied stone carving in Mexico City, where he became fascinated with the native peoples of Latin America. He is best known for his sculptures of women, as well as his focus on themes of motherhood. His works are part of the permanent collections of the San Diego Museum of Art, the New Mexico Museum of Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C., and the Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City. THE DRAWING This UNIQUE CONTE CRAYON WORK from the early-1970s is signed in PENCIL, by hand. It is a TWO-COLOR DRAWING on a light-tan paper. (Conté Crayons are similar in technique to pastels, but are stronger and darker than their paler counterpart.) The drawing is a PORTRAIT of an INDIGENOUS LATINA WOMAN, seated, in a shawl-like cowling or poncho. The paper view-size measures: 11 7/8" x 8 1/4" (30 cm x 21 cm). Currently out-of-frame and will be shipped that way to the new owner. The drawing is SIGNED, in pencil, in the lower-left: Zuniga. DATED, next to the signature: 1972. The VERSO bears an inscribed GALLERY STAMP and a MUSEUM STAMP, also. (See our close up photos.) Absolutely an ORIGINAL CONTE CRAYON DRAWN WORK; it is NOT a print or lithograph or any other kind of reproduction. PLEASE NOTE: Under eBay's rules and regulations we have to sell this original drawing as in the manner of, or in the style of Francisco Zuniga, as there were no official or recognized COAs or gallery documents attached when we acquired the work. Hence, although all aspects feel correct, it must be offered for sale on eBay, as is, in Francisco Zuniga's style. In GOOD CONDITION. There is a slight fading or light "browning" to the outer edges of the paper, due to age.
