Both signed by Francisco P. Abreu and dated February 27, 1877. Francisco Abreu (1831-1879) was a colonel in the 1st New Mexico Volunteer Infantry in the Union Army during the Civil War. Abreu was the only Hispanic commander of FortUnion. His father was Santiago Abreu, the governor of Santa Fe from 1832-1837, who was captured, tortured and killed during the Chimayo Rebellion of 1837.
