Description: Rare and unusual early Contours promotional or advertising tri-footed bon bon dish, designed by George T. James , for Franciscanware China. I believe this to be model CA-01… making it possibly the first thing that Mr. James designed for Gladding McBean. The back stamp indicates it was made in approximately 1953, two years before the Contours line was introduced. The designed is a cleverly disguised abstract G McB. ( It looks something like an abstract face , while the B is shaped like a bean.) It is in excellent vintage condition with no damage. It measures approximately 5-3/4” long by 4” wide and 1-1/4”high. Highly desirable piece , by George T . James ( Alfred University graduate) who also designed the eclipse shape for Gladding McBean… aka Franciscan Starburst shape.
