According to Wikipedia: The International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts (French: Exposition internationale des arts décoratifs et industriels modernes) was a specialized exhibition held in Paris, France, from April to October 1925. It was designed by the French government to highlight the new modern style of architecture, interior decoration, furniture, glass, jewelry and other decorative arts in Europe and throughout the world. Many ideas of the international avant-garde in the fields of architecture and applied arts were presented for the first time at the exposition. The event took place between the esplanade of Les Invalides and the entrances of the Grand Palais and Petit Palais, and on both banks of the Seine. There were 15,000 exhibitors from twenty different countries, and it was visited by sixteen million people during its seven-month run. The modern style presented at the exposition later became known as "Art Deco", after the exposition's name. French artist Robert Bonfils (1886-1972) created a series of publicity posters for the exposition, featuring a woodblock design, which were adapted for use as publicity poster stamps. The stamps have been seen in 4 distinct color combinations, but shades exist for each. The stamps appear to have been printed with a beige overwash color that varies in its appearance, making the paper color appear anywhere from white to tan. The stamps were printed by the venerable Parisian printer - Hélio-Vaugirard - known for their tremendous output of poster stamps. This stamp is printed in red and black, and it is F/VF, OG, H, with backthins caused by careless mounting. Approximate Image Size: 26 x 46 mm. Most of my working inventory plus backup stock was sold at public auction. However, I have retained some material that I will be offering for sale. I will also be offering some material at auction, either as single items or mixed lots. There will be many bargains available. There will be large and small lots, some containing similar material, some containing a random mixture, and some containing only one or a few items. The condition will be mixed, but none of the lots will be just accumulations of damaged or faulty stamps (unless specifically listed as such). A Note about Poster Stamps and Gum: Because many poster stamp collectors are primarily interested in the image on the stamp, the absence or presence of gum on the back is of little concern. If no mention of gum is made, then there may or may not be gum present. If you are only interested in poster stamps with original gum, please inquire before bidding. Actual condition issues (that are not apparent from the scan) WILL be described. A Note about "Stock Images": Occasionally I will have more than one example of an item in inventory. Rather than scan each one individually, I may use the same image for multiple examples of the item.
