BERNARD CUNEO FRENCH BRONZE MEDAL Signed by the Master Sculptor AUGUSTE MAILLARD Auguste Maillard, born June 15, 1864 in Paris (11th) and died for France in Neuilly-sur-Seine (Hauts-de-Seine) on August 19, 1944, is a French sculptor and medalist.Auguste Maillard, born in Paris, trained as a sculptor at the School of Fine Arts in Paris in the studio of Alexandre Falguière. Subsequently, he in turn became a professor at the School of Fine Arts. He produced many commemorative monuments for French cities, war memorials and busts of personalities. He is also a medalist.He exhibited at the Salon of the Society of French Artists from 1885. He obtained a medal at the Universal Exhibition of 1900 in Paris where he presented the marble of The Fall of Icare. He participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1904 in Saint-Louis, at the Universal Exhibition of Liège in 1905 and exhibited at the Salon d'hiver in 1942, 1943 and 1944.He is the creator of an elegant bust of La République, commissioned by the General Council of the Seine in 1902.He died during the Liberation battles in 1944, hit by a stray bullet while he was on the threshold of his house in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He is buried in Paris at the Père-Lachaise cemetery (62nd division).
