Description: This is an elegant and beautiful antique or vintage set of four L. BERNARDAUD B&C plates. They were made in Limoges, France and are decorated with lovely pink and blue flower sprigs on the glossy white and edged with gold. There is also a basket weave impressed into the porcelain on the edges of the plate. They are lovely, perfect for home display or to have refreshments with friends and family! The plates are about 6 & 1/2 inches in diameter. These plates are considered side plates, where during fancy dinners, they would be used to hold a folded napkin, as a bread and butter plate, an hors d’oeurves plate, or for a small treat or desert. They would also have been used during tea time for a treat to go with an afternoon cup of tea. Bernardaud is a French family business making Limoges porcelain that began in 1863 in Limoges France. The company is now run by a 4th generation. Both green and red backstamps started being used in 1900, and I have read they were used until 1920, 1929, 1940's and 1970's so it is hard to tell how old they are. So they are definitely vintage and possibly antique, and are in excellent condition. I looked closely with a flashlight and see no chips, cracks or crazing. There is a bit of rub wear to the gold trim, and a bit of wear to some of the flowers when you look closely. I see little to no utensil marks on the glaze when held at an angle to the light. They are in beautiful condition, and I have read that Bernardaud porcelain is the finest made in France! And it is still being made!
