Description: Forensic Accounting and Fraud Examination Hardcover 1st Edition by Mary-Jo Kranacher (Author), Richard Riley (Author), Joseph T. Wells (Author) Forensic Accounting provides comprehensive coverage of fraud detection and deterrence and includes the broader educational material of the forensic accounting field with all the necessary accompaniments. The text follows the model curriculum for education in fraud and forensic funded by the U.S. national Institute of Justice and developed by a Technical Working Group of experts in the field. The text serves as a comprehensive and authoritative resource for teaching forensic accounting concepts and procedures that is also and appropriate and pedagogically ready for class room use. This easy to read, comprehensive textbook includes case study examples to clearly explain technical concepts and bring the material to life. The demand for entry-level accountants to have a strong understanding of forensic accounting has dramatically increased. This new book arms them with the information they'll need. It presents comprehensive coverage of fraud detection and deterrence, incorporating the most current information in the field. It focuses on asset misappropriation, corruption, and false statements. In addition, discussions are included on fraud and forensic accounting in a digital environment as well as litigation advisory engagements that address damage claims, employment issues, valuations, and more. This approach arms accountants with the tools to successfully engage in forensic accounting. Hardcover: 560 pages Publisher: Wiley; 1 edition The Technical Working Group (TWG) on Education in Fraud and Forensic Accounting's report notes that "As a result of recent, highly publicized financial scandals; reported increases in occupational fraud; and heightened concerns over money laundering to support terrorism and racketeering, legislative mandates and public expectations have heightened the necessity to further define the auditor's and accountant's responsibility for detecting fraud within organizations. Successful fraud or forensic accounting analyses and findings reported by practicing professionals may be the difference between whether perpetrators avoid detection of their illegal activities or they are brought to justice." Forensic accounting has come of age. The authors have written an excellent text. The topics include everything in the model curriculum developed by the TWG where all three authors were Planning Panel Members. At the start students are made aware of the foundations of fraud, fraud examination, and forensic investigations. This section also talks about the diverse career paths that are available to forensic accountants, much like auditing books talk about the structure of the profession. The writing style realizes that all this would be new to accounting students. Up to now students would have been taught rules and procedures and the fact that fraud could exist in the organization or in the audit client was largely ignored. The second section reviews criminology, ethics, and the legal and regulatory environment of external auditing. The section on who commits fraud and complex frauds and financial crimes is sure to make students realize that all is not rosy and honest out in the real world. The section on investigative tools and techniques covers lots of ground from fraud risk assessments to evidence procurement, to interviewing techniques, and the use of software to obtain evidence. Students should find this section especially interesting because it is the accounting equivalent of CSI. The section on fraud schemes covers asset misappropriations, corruption, and false representations, and financial statement fraud as outlined in the model curriculum. Even I was reminded that not all fraud is occupational fraud. There are a lot of bad things happening in the world. I especially liked the final section on litigation advisory services, expert witnesses, and valuations. These ideas and concepts should be completely new to all accounting students who will be quite surprised to learn how many people earn a very good living in litigation support and valuation services. The book is an excellent choice for a one semester course. The instructor aids include comprehensive PPT slides (about 40 per chapter), a test bank, supplemental questions and case studies. An especially solid feature of the book is the comprehensive listing of resources in the Appendix. The 5-page Glossary is useful to students who might perhaps have forgotten what a ghost employee is after it was first discussed. The comprehensive index is a tribute to the hard work that went in to writing such a seminal work. One issue with teaching a forensic accounting course is that most professors lack practical experience in the area of fraud and forensic accounting. They may be unwilling to teach a class in which they are unable to answer student's questions. This book solves that problem. Sticker on spine. Slight shelf wear to cover. IDEA CD still sealed in book. 978-0-470-43774-2. If you have any questions please be sure to ask BEFORE purchasing! Can't find what you're looking for?
