Description: This is a rare August 8th, 1932 playbill from the first Broadway revival of the classic JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II musical comedy "SHOW BOAT" at the Casino Theatre in New York City. (The Original Broadway production opened December 27th, 1927 at the Ziegfeld Theatre and ran for 575 performances before going on the road. The show returned to New York's Casino Theatre on May 19th, 1932 for an additional 180 performances.) ..... This masterwork by JEROME KERN and OSCAR HAMMERSTEIN II remains one of the greatest of all musicals and possibly the greatest musical theatre score to date. The story starts in the 1880's on one of the many American riverboats that featured traveling shows. The musical starred HELEN MORGAN as "Julie", CHARLES WINNINGER as "Cap'n Andy", NORMA TERRIS as "Magnolia", AUNT JEMIMA (Tess Gardell) as "Queenie", BERTHA BELMORE as "Parthy Ann Hawks", SAMMY WHITE as "Frank", EVA PUCK as "Ellie", DENNIS KING as "Gaylord Ravenal" and PAUL ROBESON as "Joe" and included ALLAN CAMPBELL, CHARLES ELLIS, JAMES SWIFT, FRANCIS X. MAHONEY, THOMAS GUNN, GLADSTONE WALDRIP, PHIL SHERIDAN, JACK DALEY, DOROTHY DENESE, ANNIE HART, ESTELLE FLOYD, STELLA BAILEY, MILDRED SCHWENKE, EVELYN EATON, ROBERT FARICY, J. LEWIS JOHNSON, GERTRUDE WALKER, TANA KAMP, MAURINE HOLMES and LAURA CLAIRON ..... DETAILS: The 22 page playbill measures 7" X 9 1/2" inches and includes full production credits, cast list, scenes and musical numbers and wonderful vintage advertising, but no cast photos or bios. The front cover pays tribute to producer FLORENZ ZIEGFELD, Jr., who passed away two weeks earlier on July 22nd, 1932 ..... CONDITION: With the exception of a heavy corner crease to the cover and a small stain inside the front cover, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any musical theatre aficionado or historian. This item will be carefully packaged in a protective, carded sleeve and backed by stiff cardboard.
